‘Reporting For Duty’ – another great five star review for this book today – ‘This is a brilliant historical record of the development of Britain’s second largest Police Force. It is written in a manner that avoids the ‘fustiness’ of some histories. The anecdotes from officers are fascinating and interesting and sometimes humorous. A great read.’ (Each copy sold attracts a donation to the new UK Police Memorial fund)

‘Pretty Thing’ recent reviews.’ The most enjoyable Bowie related book you’ll ever read’. ‘A great slice of 70’s nostalgia’, ‘Most enjoyable book I’ve read in a while’, ‘A clever read, well written’

‘Reporting For Duty’ – today’s special mention goes to Roy Shotton who provided some great photographs and memories. The picture shows a police escort of a victorious Aston Villa football team in Birmingham City Centre 1982. The goal scorer of the team on the night that they won the European Cup Final was Peter Withe. (Roy is far right) The book charts the history of the West Midlands Police from 1974 to 1999. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1916168000/

Football-related violence – I spent the day in London yesterday doing a comprehensive interview for a film company who are producing a feature-length film about the effects of football-related violence particularly during the 1980s. Talked about the structure, organisation and history of hooligan groups and in particular the ‘Zulu Warriors’. I’ve worked a lot in London over the last fifteen years but always glad to get back home!

‘Reporting For Duty’ – todays special mention goes to Mick Foster QPM – retired Assistant Chief Constable with the West Midlands Police. Mick provided the Foreword to this book which records the history of the West Midlands Police 1974 – 1999. Mick is a Trustee of ‘The Police Arboretum Memorial Trust and previous Trustee of the ‘Care of Police Survivors Trust’ – ‘CoPS’ Each copy of the book sold attracts a donation to the new UK Police Memorial fund.

‘Reporting For Duty’ – todays special mentions go to contributor Julie Maley who many ‘F’ Division officers in the West Midlands Police will remember as Julie Whild. Digbeth officers will no doubt remember finding Julie in the middle of many a fight in the city-centre and she rarely failed to emerge without a prisoner. Also to Peter Hancox who provided a unique insight into the world of being a Fingerprint Expert in the Force. The book is available on Amazon UK
